KY31 Fescue: Good or Not?

anyone here used KY31 Tall Fescue? I put it down at my old place ‘cause it was cheap, but now I’m wondering if I made a mistake. It’s drought-resistant and all, but I’m seeing some light spots on my lawn and dealing with fungus issues. The blades are wide and tear easily too.

What’s the deal? Is it really worth the trouble, or am I just stuck with a bunch of headache grass? Let me know your thoughts!

KY31 is tough but it can be a pain with fungus and those rough blades. You might want to try a turf-type tall fescue mix next time...better look and feel.

I’m not a cool season guy, but I’ve been told k31 talll fescue should really be labeled for pastures and not lawns

Yeah, KY31 gets that rep - cheap and tough in dry patches, but it doesn't look great compared to finer turfgrass. The wide, coarse blades and random thinning/light spots are pretty common, and fungus shows up more than you'd like.

A lot of people who care about how the lawn looks end up overseeding with fancier fescues or other turfgrass because KY31 is kinda just functional, not pretty. So if aesthetics matter, it's not really worth the headache long-term.
